Information Disclosure Policy

On October 11, 2005, the Board of Executive Directors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation approved a new information disclosure policy for the institution, which replaces the policy on disclosure of information approved on January 15, 1999. The Board’s approval followed a 90-day public consultation process. The new policy considerably expands the scope of information to be disclosed to the public and for the first time explicitly states that information concerning the Corporation and its activities will be available to the public in the absence of a compelling reason for confidentiality. With this new policy, the Corporation reaffirms its commitment to transparency and accountability in all of its activities. Documents prepared between January 15, 1999, and December 1, 2005, will continue to be subject to the policy approved on January 15, 1999. The new policy became effective on December 1, 2005.

In March 2008, IIC Management appointed two IIC staff members to observe and participate in an interdepartmental working group of the IDB that had the goal of completing the enhancement and amendment of the IDB mechanism.

The IIC participated as an observer in the IDB’s public consultation process for the new Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (ICIM). The IIC intends to bring a consistent mechanism reform proposal to its Board of Executive Directors that will allow the IIC to participate in the ICIM and reflect the results of the public consultation.
