The loan will help support Banco Improsa's target market, which chiefly comprises export-oriented companies with less than $4.5 million in annual sales. It will also help this small bank gain access to additional long-term funding.

Consorcio Celsa-Dimmsa-Telepsa Limitada (CONDICEL), recipient of a $4.2 million loan from the IIC, will install and maintain 15,000 public telephone booths in Costa Rica and lease them to the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the national telephone and electricity company. The project will more than double the number of public telephones in Costa Rica in rural areas as well as in major cities. In addition to creating ninety direct jobs, the project will provide an opportunity for the local private sector to obtain experience and skills in providing telecommunication services and transfer advanced Colombian telephonic technology and equipment to the Costa Rican telecommunications sector.
